Introduction

The objective is to collect all the gold within a level while avoiding guards who pose a threat to the player. Upon collecting all the gold, players must reach the top of the screen to advance to the next level.

Levels are designed with a multi-story brick platform layout, featuring ladders and hand-to-hand bars that create diverse navigation options. Players can dig holes in the floors, temporarily trapping guards and allowing safe passage over them. If a trapped guard has gold when falling into a hole, it will remain in place and can be collected later. Over time, dug floors will regenerate, filling in these holes. A guard that cannot escape before a hole fills will perish and respawn randomly at the top of the level. In contrast, the player's character cannot escape from a filled hole and will lose a life if trapped. Additionally, floors may contain trapdoors that let both players and guards fall through, while bedrock areas are indestructible.

The player may only dig horizontally and not directly beneath. This necessitates strategic thinking; for instance, to dig down x blocks deep, one must first create a space wide enough to accommodate further digging. However, unique conditions allow for digging from ladders or hand-to-hand bars, enabling players to descend vertically in successive rows—a technique essential for solving numerous levels.

Beginning with five lives, players earn an extra life upon completing each level. If caught by a guard, one life is lost, and the level restarts. The character can fall from any height without injury but is unable to jump; players must be cautious of pitfalls where escaping requires restarting the level at the cost of a life.

Players can interact with guards by contacting them directly from above or during free falls. This mechanic allows players to traverse over guards ensnared in holes. Timing is crucial; walking over guards while they are falling or standing enables level progression. There are instances where aiding trapped guards or using them as platforms is necessary to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. However, initiating downward movement while on a guard’s head may lead to failure.

In various levels, players can skillfully trap guards or exploit their movements to collect gold pieces. Strategically luring guards into dead ends or freeing them by digging can be crucial tactics for success.
